1. Greeting the Eid with takbirs
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was saying takbirs in the day of Arafa from the sunset to the Eid al-Fitr prayer. As a matter of fact, Allah states in the Qur’an as follows: …وَلِتُكْمِلُواْ الْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُواْ اللّهَ عَلَى مَا هَدَاكُمْ … “ … Allah wants ease and not hardship for you so that you may complete the number of days required, praise Allah for what He has guided you to, and give thanks to Him…” (Surah al-Baqarah 2/185).
2. Performing a full ablution
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was performing a full ablution on the day of Arafa and before the Eid Prayer. Also, he recommended the household perform a full ablution in these days.
3. Wearing nice and neat clothes
4. Wearing fragrance
5. Brushing teeth with miswak
6. Eating dates before the Eid al-Fitr Prayer; not eating anything unless returning from Eid al-Adha Prayer
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did not leave his house without having a few dates in the Eid al-Fitr. Usually, he ate an odd number of dates like one, three, or five. He did not eat anything unless he returned from Eid al-Adha Prayer.
7. Walking to the place where the Eid Prayer is observed
8. Using a different path when going to and coming back from the prayer place
9. Smiling
10. Giving charity
11. Performing the Eid Prayer and listening to the sermon
12. Praying for the blessings of the eid day and to be free of sins and participating in the others’ prayers
14. Performing a two-rakah Prayer after the Eid Prayer
15. Celebrating with his Companions
16. Visiting people at their homes
17. Hosting guests and offering food, drink, etc. to them
18. Making children happy, especially orphans and the poor
19. Saying takbir (Allahu akbar Allahu akbar, la ilaha illallahu wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahi’l-hamd), tahlil (la ilahe illallah) and tahmid (alhamdulillah)
20. Reviving the eid nights (with salah, prayer, and dhikr)
